What I will
do in a consultation
I will come to your home at a time that is convenient for
you and your baby. I’ll plan to spend an hour or two
with you, at a time that your baby is likely to be hungry.
I’ll take a history of your breastfeeding problems.
I’ll bring a very accurate scale, so that (when
appropriate) I can weigh your baby before and after a
feeding and measure how much breastmilk the baby took in. I
will watch you breastfeed, and offer suggestions to make it
more comfortable and effective. I will answer your
questions, and provide information and resources you can
use. I have available tools and equipment that can help
solve breastfeeding problems, and I can show you how to use
them. By the end of the consultation, I will provide you
with a care plan. I welcome your phone calls after the
consultation relating to the problem we have addressed. I
will fax a report to your health care providers as
appropriate.
